At Mad Hatter Technology Inc., our team was inspired by International Women’s Day, which has evolved since its inception in the early 1900’s.

 

March 8, the official International Women’s Day, is now celebrated in almost every country, and is a national holiday in many of them.

 

So take a look at these ten talented Canadian Women in technology and social media - some of whom are taking on the world – that have already come so far and are showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon.

 

1. Mandy Shapansky, CEO and president, Xerox Canada Ltd.

 

Mandy Shapansky has moved up the ladder since she started her career at Xerox in 1985. With experience overseeing all of Xerox’s Canadian business operations, including human resources, customer service, marketing and sales, it is no surprise that under Shapansky’s watch, Xerox Canada was named one of Canada’s Top 100 Employers for 2012 by Mediacorp, and last year was recognized as one of Canada’s Top 50 Socially Responsible Corporations. 

 

2. Janet Wood, Executive vice-president, Maintenance Go-to-Market, SAP

 

 

Janet Wood is in charge of the operation and growth of the enterprise software vendor SAP’s maintenance business. She was brought into SAP in 2008 after the acquisition of Business Objects, where she had been since 2003. Before her career at Business Objects, she was vice-president of business development at Crystal Decisions and had previously spent time in various management positions with IBM.

 

3. Heather Shaw: Executive chair, Corus Entertainment Inc.

 

 

Heather Shaw helped establish Corus Entertainment as a spin-off from Shaw Communications in 1999 and has served as chair since then. Under her leadership, Corus has been recognized as one of Canada’s 10 Most Admired Corporate Cultures, Canada’s Best Diversity Employer and Greater Toronto Top Employer, among other honours. 

 

4. Bonnie Fuller: Editor, HollywoodLife.com - @BonnieFuller

 

 

Canadian and Toronto born Bonnie Fuller has earned a reputation in the publishing industry as a powerhouse. She has extensive experience as the editor-in-chief of high profile magazines such as Flare, Cosmopolitan, and Glamour. This Canadian media executive is now rocking the online digital world as editor of HollywoodLife.com

 

5. Cybele Negris: Co-founder and president, Webnames.ca - @cybelenegris

 

 

Cybele Negris helped start Webnames.ca, Canada’s original .ca  registrar, offering services such as domain extensions, domain portfolio management, domain privacy, web hosting, Web Builder, e-mail, SSL certificates and a range of other online solutions. After its 2009 acquisition of Ripe B2B Inc., Webnames.ca started to provide software and systems development services and has also launched a Search Engine Optimization Consultation service and a WordPress Web Development Program integrated with social media called Essentials.

 

6. Carol Leaman: President & CEO, Axonify - @CarolLeaman

 

 

Carol is the President & CEO at Axonify. With more than 20 years of leadership and technology executive experience, Carol is very familiar with building start-ups into multi-million dollar successes. She is responsible for driving the overall strategic direction and Axonify’s commitment to revolutionizing employee awareness and corporate learning. Se has won numerous awards including the Waterloo Region Entrepreneur Hall of Fame Intrepid Award (2011).

 

7. Amber Mac: Entrepreneur & TV Host - @ambermac

 

 

Amber Mac wears many hats as an entrepreneur, television host, professional speaker, and bestselling author. She co-hosts a nationally aired TV show called AppCentral on CTV/BNN which also runs in Australia, and South Korea. She has also appeared on other networks.

 

8. Casie Stewart: Director of Social Media, Community - @casiestewart

 

 

Known as one of Canada’s young digital tastemakers, Casie Stewart is an innovator and leader in the digital space. She is an award winning Canadian Lifestyle blogger and is currently Director of Social Media at Community. Casie has appeared in several media outlets including The Wall Street Journal, Marketing Magazine, BNN, and eTalk to name a few.

 

9. Natalie MacNeil: Emmy Award-winning media entrepreneur - @nataliemacneil

 

 

Mad Hatter Technology Inc. had the pleasure of hearing Natalie speak about her journey last month at the Student Leadership Conference 2013. Not only did this Emmy Award-winning media entrepreneur, and best-selling author of She Takes on the World: A Guide to Being Your Own Boss, Working Happy, and Living on Purpose impress us – she also inspired 220 local youth to do what they love and create the job of their dreams. 

 

10. Sarah Prevette: Founder, Sprouter - @sarahprevette

 

 

Sarah is no stranger to the technology industry. Named as one of the top entrepreneurs in North America by Inc Magazine, Sarah was the founder of sproter.com, and has earned a reputation for assisting more than 100,000 startups world-wide. Several notable media have profiled Sarah including The Wall Street Journal, Forbes and Wired Magazine.
