There is this myth that virtual reality is going to be a solo experience. That couldn't be further from the truth. From Facebook to TOMS to LiveLike, designers and developers are looking to put social at the core of virtual reality.

 

Facebook

 

Since Facebook acquired Oculus Rift in 2014, the development teams at Facebook have dedicated time and effort to create a social virtual reality experience. Aiming to be in general use by 2015, the social media giant would utilize Oculus Rift goggles. These interactions would resemble futuristic teleportation as individuals would visually interact with others around the world.

 

TOMS

Known for their One-for-One model, TOMS takes their employees on a multitude of year-round Giving Trips. During these Giving Trips, TOMS gives the equivalant of bought shoes to a variety of countries in need. To extend this experience to their consumers, TOMS customers can know experience a 4-minute Giving Trip through virtual reality. In their flagship store in Los Angeles or across roughly 400 Nordstrom locations, you can put on a virtual reality headset and experience a Giving Trip, understanding even more concretely why so many people buy TOMS products.

LiveLike

 

LiveLike has created a virtual reality stadium. Through LiveLike, you can have your own personal box, sit with friends on virtual stands, and compare statistics. You can even "go" to a certain part of the box to see highlights, replays, and switch camera angles - even during replays! During the game, changing camera angles is as simple as turning your head. LiveLike is currently working with Fox to create VR experiences for their sports coverage.
