Read it on Reddit & Take in tumblr was the seventh segment of our Social Media Madness Series. This session was focused on exploring each outlet in depth and understanding how to navigate each of these informational platforms.
What is tumblr?
tumblr is a social photo collection, allowing one to follow accounts they find interesting as well as share content they come across and enjoy.
Known as a blog engine and a community that respects art, tumblr consists of visitors as well as members, who come to this platform to view and share creative content - from how to use/different uses of products, to combining facts with images, charts, videos or quotes.
tumblr is a great place for for creators to find an audience for their content, build network connections and market to a large audience.

Apple iPhone 5C
The first time the Apple turned to social to showcase hardware, the brand turned to tumblr for being a high quality and creative platform. Apple displayed colours the iPhone 5C was available in and created a variety of ads for the tumblr page. This engaged the audience as Apple has a huge following and the fans couldn’t wait to see what’s next.
Calvin Klein
The brand showcases luxurious photos of items from their collection as well as animated GIFs. The brand stays active on their page by posting crisp content, one to four times a day.
Converse
The brand choose to partner with internet artists to create content that would be absorbed and appreciated by their followers. tumblr uses Converse account as an example on how to brand correctly.
Drive-in Theatres
Drive-in theaters are considered to be part of American culture and many faced closure due to lack of funding to go digital. A campaign was created along with Honda which encouraged followers to vote for theaters to keep open, at the same time it spread awareness about the issue.
General Electric
GE is able to bring their work to life through GIFs, illustrations and infographics. By showcasing GE history and displaying research in a neat and interactive way, GE is a source of news for exploring science and technology.Their audience varies from those who have interest in aviation to those seeking innovation.
Denny's
Appealing to their evening audience, the brand uses humor to attract and entertain their followers with humor, or sometimes a sense of oddness.
Hunger Games
The brand was clever - they didn’t just advertise, they created an entire magazines styled blog about a fashion inspired by the capital in the movie. The collection of clothing shown in the show quickly became popular among their followers.
